The presentation evening was held at Rastrick BC and 2024 has been a very successful year for STBC. Having already received the Ewart Lord trophy we also picked up the following: Tuesday Evening Division 3 winners, Ladies over 55’s runners up, Martin Grace average winner division 3 Thursday Veterans and perhaps best of all the club was awarded Club of the Year. This was an acknowledgement of the fund raising and competitions hosted by the club throughout the 2024 season.
Below are a selection of photos from the presentation evening
The Final of Ewart Lord Competition, sponsored by Mr Frank Lowney of Allan Park BC, was held on Thursday 5th September at West End Bowling Club. The finalists were STBC & Hipperholme BC
The match referee, Peter Martin, introduced the first pair on the green, Pam Wood STBC and Ian Walkington Hipperholme. The following three pairs were then introduced, STBC names first:
Nikki Conway v David Peel, Peter Lomax v Luke Wilczyski & Heather Parker v Mathew Parker.
STBC were giving Hipperholme 7 start but after the first two matches were up by 16 points. Respective scores for the first 4 matches were 21-6, 21-13, 11-21 & 21-10.
In the second half STBC turned up the pressure by winning three of the last four games.
Philip Schofield 21 v 10 Stevan Oakes, Michael Wood 21v10 Nigel Parker Martin Grace 21v16 Paul Bannerman. Neil Greenwood did restore some respectability by securing a win against Helen Harrison 21-13.
STBC were worthy winners 179 to 143, including team handicaps. There was some fine bowling by both teams.
Congratulations to STBC
The prizes were presented by Jenny Walmsley, Association Vice President, in the absence of our sponsor.
Philip Schofield in receiving the Trophy thanked West End BC for hosting the Final and thanked the match referee.
A great performance by Bub Cockroft and Chris Garbutt saw them lift the Calderdale Men’s Double Trophy beating a pair from Elland 7 – 5 in a deciding 3rd set.
This year’s President’s Day consisted of a mixed pairs bowling competition, consisting of 4 groups. The winners of each group then played a semi final, followed by the final. A buffet lunch was also provided for those that wanted to eat.
The day was well attended and a great success, the final was played out between Nikki Conway and Paddy Thomas against Lesley Ellison and Alan Riddles with Nikki and Paddy the eventual winners.
This is the second year the club has hosted this event and although numbers at the event were not as high as we had hoped the evening was a great success and enjoyed by all those who did attend. The band started the evening off and continued after a break for food and drink. The BBQ and buffet was excellent. Thanks go out to all those who helped in any way to make the night a brilliant success
The Halifax Champion of Champions tournament is a prestigious event that showcases the skill and determination of its participants. This year, the tournament was graced by an exceptional display of talent and sportsmanship, with Gareth Coates of Akroyd Vics clinching the title in a thrilling finale. Sponsored by The Water Wizard (Tony Bannister), the tournament saw Coates secure a remarkable 21-16 victory over Richard Hargreaves of Crossroads
This year, the event took on an even more significant role by dedicating all proceeds from raffles, donations, and sales to the Overgate Hospice, a beacon of care and support for those facing life-limiting illnesses. The Halifax & District Bowling Association along with the Sowerby Tennis and Bowling Club, demonstrated remarkable generosity and community spirit by raising an impressive £784 for the hospice.
